Possibly the most important business question?

October 25, 2011

When I first became self-employed, I joined a local business networking group that was about to launch, in a naive hope to promote my new business. I was told that as soon as we get four more people on board, the group will launch formally and we can all benefit from the business referrals (there were about twelve people in the group at that time).

Two months later, there were only ten members left, and we now needed 6 more members to launch this group formally. Another couple of months later,  this group was about to collapse.

As others were aware of my background in NLP training, I was asked to run a 20 minutes long (or short) meeting in hope to get members more motivated to do invitations, phone calls, and other things necessary for successful group launch.

Something strange happened. After that meeting, this business networking group launched within three weeks with solid 25 members. The place was buzzing, and everyone started to see benefits of their hard work.

Of course, this could be purely coincidental, but the fact is that immediately after my short meeting I have noticed a massive change in everyone’s attitude. Simply put, everyone was working their socks out for the next few weeks to get the launch out of the way.

One could easily think that I did a lots of ‘NLP magic’ during that meeting. The truth is, I didn’t. I went round the table and asked all existing members a simple, four word question: Read the rest of this entry »

Free NLP Presentation Skills Training

September 21, 2011

Take a look at this picture. Did you know that this lady is sending this message to her audience: “Please listen to me, I beg you for attention!”?

When a woman talks with her palms up, she sends a nonverbal message of lack of power and presence, hence she can loose some credibility with her audience. On the other hand, when a man uses this gesture, it can soften his presenting style and make his listeners feel more at ease.

When we talk to other people, we don’t normally think about what message are we communicating with gestures we use. We don’t normally think about the impact of specific words we use, or the tone our voice. We don’t tend to think about how the way we stand, or the specific spot we stand on when we talk, can be utilised for the maximum impact of our message. Read the rest of this entry »

I Can Achieve Anything!

September 21, 2011
One of our dear NLP Practitioners, Graham Ellis, shares his learning experience and what he got out of it…

Sunday 5th June Manchester England, at 56 years of age, why oh why did I not get curious sooner? I first saw these 2 wonderful ladies in Watford long before bumping into them in Manchester 1 wet Monday morning and long before Lenka got her bump :-) , some weeks later I then met them again back in Watford. Come along to our intro evening said Sheila………..the rest is history, I arrived for the first day of my intensive practitioner training full of trepidation having listened to what seemed to be a library full of CD’s and love it or hate it that voice!! Well we all sat down and introduced ourselves, a more diverse bunch of folks you couldn’t have planned and from that moment my life changed!! At the end of each day I drove back home to Ripon half wanting to meet myself on the way back, you see I couldn’t wait for the next day to start I was like a child again at school, my thirst for knowledge had been reborn.

We practiced frantically after first being shown the correct way to ‘chunk up’, ‘chunk down’, collapse anchors, fire anchors, set goals, walk the time line so much in such a short space of time!!! Boy just like the rest of you I couldn’t wait for the next one, there were tears of joy, moments of amazement and darn right bewilderment, I no longer buy that shirt because I like it! I now question do I need it? I now no longer spend my days driving past junction 25 on the M1 (Derby – Nottingham in case you wondered) trying to identify the girls name emblazoned on all ‘Eddie Stobart’ Lorries and then when not being able to read it getting the hump! On a personal level my life has changed, I now have the same confidence in my working life as I have always had socially, I myself have trained others for the last 20 years in railway safety, Shiela and Lenka are masters at it, my training events are now nothing like the old ones, Metaphors……….who would have thought 6’6″ labourers eagerly awaiting the close out of the story and the look on their faces (bless) when they have to go home and wait till the next day (another of the masters methods). My life has taken on a new meaning, I can have what I want, I can achieve anything, I will achieve everything.

Finally (for now I will be back) sorry ladies all, In 9 days time I will be getting married to Angie in Mauritious, you had your chances :-)

Masters Thank you for everything xxxxx

What Makes a Charismatic Presenter

September 20, 2011

What kind of presenter are you? Do people hang on to every word you say or do you send them to sleep? Do your words motivate action or inaction?

If your answer is ‘I am not a presenter’, we dare to challenge you. EVERYONE is a presenter. Some present on stage to thousands of people, others to group of managers and co-workers, or to their kids, friends and family. Whenever we talk, we present our personality, our thoughts and ideas. The way we present, our presenting skills, have the ability to make or break us.

If you wonder what it takes to present with impact and charisma, regardless of the size of the audience, here are the crucial ‘ingredients’: Read the rest of this entry »

Congratulations New NLP Practitioners!

August 31, 2011

Sunday, 9.30 am. While everyone else is probably having a lie down, these thirteen folks woke up nice and early, and made their way to Watford. Not knowing what to expect, of course.

Within the first half an hour, we told them: “You will learn NLP this week, it’s given. But what may surprise you is how much will you change this week.”

Sheila and I are noticing a look of disbelief on many faces. But that’s ok, we’re used to it. Read the rest of this entry »

21 Habits of a Happy Mind

August 30, 2011

By: Lenka Majstrikova and Sheila Patel

What separates happy people from those whose life sucks? Could it be a bunch of habits?

You bet!

Our habits of thinking determine our focus. Our focus influences how we feel. How we feel influences our action, or inaction for that matter. Our actions lead to results, and our results feed the habitual ways of thinking. And this circle goes on and on, affecting the way we perceive our life.

We put together a list of 21 habits of happy and unhappy mind. We know that we generalised, big style, but at least it will give you an idea: Do your habits of thinking serve you, or you serve them? Is there a habit you could adopt, or get rid of, to immediately increase quality of your life?

So, here let’s begin: Read the rest of this entry »

Happiness: Lottery or Birthright?

July 27, 2011

By: Lenka Majstrikova

I wasn’t a very happy teenager. On surface, everything was as it should be. Living in a nice house, attending a good school, having some great friends. I was cushioned in my little comfort zone, and behind the closed door, I hated every bit of it. I should have been happy, and I wasn’t. And I wanted to. Not knowing better, I came to London as 19 year old thinking naively that somewhere here, in this cosmopolitan city, I could finally find my own sense of happiness. I hoped to start living here my ‘new life’ and my ‘new me’. Read the rest of this entry »

Alternatives to Why

June 14, 2011

By: Lenka Majstrikova and Sheila Patel

Have you ever made the fatal mistake of asking someone “Why?” when they say “I’m sooooo p****d off!”, “My whole life is crap!” or “Every one is out to get me!”   What happens next is you get a barrage of justifiable reasons why that person should be upset and you’re left speechless.  Unable to respond appropriately, not only can you not help them, but they’re probably in an even worse state by answering your question “Why?”!!!!!

It seems like such a simple and harmless question and we have no idea what else to ask, so we ask it.  But the result can often be a variation of the above scenario.  The question itself focuses on evidence gathering which requires the speaker to look for justifications.  It can result in making the problem bigger and overwhelming.  In many cases, the tirade will include assumptions about other people’s intentions, which might well be inaccurate!

So what else could we ask instead?   Read the rest of this entry »

The “Law of Attraction Centre” of Your Brain: Reticular Activating System

May 30, 2011

By: Lenka Majstrikova

Have you ever wondered why is it that two people can look at the same glass and one person can see it as half full, while the other as half empty? Why some people know that we are living in a friendly and abundant world, while others view this planet as a hostile place where ‘only the strongest wins”? Have you ever wondered how do we create our reality? How do we attract to our experience what we live? And how to attract to our lives what we don’t have, but would like to?  Read the rest of this entry »

My journey towards change began in November 2007 when after 30 years, I made a short trip to India. As soon as I came back nothing was the same and I started asking myself what the hell I was doing working in a place like this.

How to Become a Feedback Champion

April 19, 2011

By Lenka Majstrikova

Taking feedback means acknowledging that mistakes are there to learn from, not to make false assumptions about ourselves. Taking feedback means continual growth. Taking feedback means seeing criticism as opportunity to learn. Taking feedback means welcoming every opportunity to improve ourselves. Taking feedback is one of the most useful life skills in the toolbox of creating a positive change.

As Boris Becker once said: “Feedback is breakfast of all champions.” If you want to become an expert at taking feedback and accelerate the change in your life, you may find it useful to follow some of these simple tips: Read the rest of this entry »

Personal Values: Managers of Our Life

April 15, 2011

By: Lenka Majstrikova

“Happiness is that state of consciousness which proceeds from the achievement of one’s values.” - Ayn Rand

Do you sometimes feel unfulfilled in your life? Do you find yourself striving for big things, yet feeling unable to get there? Would you like to live your life to the full yet don’t know how?

If it is so, you will find it extremely valuable to look deeper into your values. What is important to us, our values,  may be largely unconscious; yet they are the source of our fulfillment and motivation behind eveything we do. They are a Managers of our life. Everything we do will have some personal value behind it. When our life doesn’t work exactly the way we want, we may need to readjust and nurture our Managers. This article describes what values are, how we organise them in our mind, and how can we change them in order to live our life to the full.

Just like in case of Sam, one of our coaching clients. As a  highly respected change management consultant, Sam was at the peak of her career when she decided to set up her own consultancy company. Self employment however proved to be a huge challenge for Sam; she found herself unable to build a large enough client portfolio in order to become financially independent.

Working with Sam, we elicited her unconsciously held career values in order of hierarchy. It turned out that Sam’s top values were making a difference, helping people and doing a good job. While these are extremely nice values, for a self-employed person one value was definitely missing; the value of money. Read the rest of this entry »

The Power of Your Imagination

April 7, 2011

By: Lenka Majstrikova

We cannot help ourselves but use our imagination all the time. When we have a conversation, we play various pictures and movies in our mind in order to make sense of what the other person is saying.  Whether we worry or feel happy; describe something, remember or plan ahead, our imagination runs all the time.

Your unconscious mind does not recognise between what you imagine and what you see in reality. It takes everything as real. When you fantasise about something, your unconscious mind will take this as a powerful suggestion, and you will start unconsciously attracting things, people and events into your life to fit that image in your mind. The Unconscious Mind: Your Infinite Source of Knowledge

April 2, 2011

You may think that you are learning things consciously, but essentially it is your unconscious mind that stores all the learning.

Can you remember how much effort it took to learn to drive? “Now it’s the time to put my foot on a clutch. Now it’s the time to change the gear. Now it’s the time to accelerate.” We consciously repeated all the right things to do in our mind, until one day, long after we passed the driving test, we found ourselves getting somewhere thinking: “Gee, I don’t even know how I got here!” That is because the learning became unconscious. And that is the good thing. It would be very hard to drive consciously thinking about all you need to do to get to places!

Everything you ever learned is stored unconsciously. Read the rest of this entry »

Were You Born for Success?

March 24, 2011

When we were babies, the world was our oyster. We asked for something and boy, were we stubborn to get it! We wanted to be astronauts, managers, business men and women, good husbands and wives. We knew we could have it all. And how much confidence and love did we have for ourselves? Heaps! Can you imagine a baby that wouldn’t smile when they see themselves in the mirror?

Now, how many of us can look in the mirror with feeling of love in our adult age? How many of us are still aiming for the stars?

One would say that there is something to learn from kids – their love for everything alive, their amazement from learning anything new, their curiosity, their determination, their confidence, their sureness in perfection of life.

The truth is, however that we don’t need to learn a thing from them. We only need to remember. Because all of us were kids at the time, ambitious little gods, and that child is still there. We only forgot many things, by placing self limitations upon ourselves. This forgetfulness is sometimes causing us to use only a tiny pin light in our warehouse of unlimited resources.

So just remember – you have all the resources you need to succeed. Nobody was born into this world to live life less than totally fulfilling, and you are no exception. You are still a little god of life, so claim your role!

Love,

Lenka x

Why Fit In When You Stand Out?

March 15, 2011

By: Sheila Patel

My way of thinking was just not normal.  Nothing about me was normal – I was positively boring.  I couldn’t go out after school or at weekends, but I put my foot down for attending religious ceremonies – just so not my thing.  I remember my parents constantly telling me “Work in a bank”, they meant well.  Interest rates in the 80’s were over 15% and working in a bank would mean a discount – apparently I’d be sorted for life! A Little Guide to LOTS of Happiness

February 10, 2011

By: Lenka Majstrikova & Sheila Patel

There are moments when it feels like happiness is a lifetime away, that you’ve missed the boat, or happiness is for others, not me.  Lack of happiness is often an indication of one or more of the following areas missing or being unfulfilled:

·         Not being who you want to be,

·         Not doing what you want to do,

·         Not having what you want to have,

a result of thinking of life as a series of external events over which you have no control can contribute to the problem.

William James (1771 – 1837), father of modern day psychology, considered the question – is life a series of pre-determined reactions to events, or do we have free will and choices.  James studied this for many years and in 1884 decided we do both.  It’s impossible to function purely from one place.

However, those who believe they have little control over their lives experienced less happiness, more stress and suffering.  Those who felt they have control over their lives tended to be happier and more successful.

But what is happiness?  It’s such a subjective definition which can include many emotions from contentment to ecstasy.  Of course, emotions are a result of such things as being mortgage free, reading a great book, or seeing the sun on a winter’s day.  The point is, you all have your own definition for happiness and you all want it.

Happiness is something that we all have access to.  At any moment.  Happiness is not an end point.  It’s not the result of achieving something specific.  It’s something we experience.  Researchers including David Lykken (2005) suggest happiness is 50% genetics, up to 15% is a result of class, marital status, health, income, sex and others. The remaining 35-40% is a combination of unknown factors and the results of actions that individuals deliberately engage in to become happier. Read the rest of this entry »

Words, words, words – what do they mean?!

February 10, 2011

By: Lenka Majstrikova

After her phone conversation with hospital growth scan department was over, the midwife looked into my eyes and said sincerely: ‘Please, try not to worry too much!’ In that moment, I felt my body being swallowed by fear. ‘What is there to worry about?’ I asked with sheer horror in my eyes. ‘Probably nothing’, she answered, ‘You didn’t grow in the last two weeks and it could be simply because of baby’s position.  But we will know for sure after the growth scan.’

The drive from the local antenatal clinic to hospital was the longest 20 minutes in my life. I couldn’t stop thinking about that “Try not to worry too much” warning. Doing my best to stay relaxed, I felt myself shaking with worry and my mind was in absolute overdrive Read the rest of this entry »

Why do I feel so S**T ?

January 12, 2011

By: Lenka Majstrikova

For many years of my life I was extremely good at worrying and complaining. I could not understand how it was possible that in spite of my greatest efforts and ‘trying’, all I was getting was an endless chain of bad luck.

I would often cry and feel helpless, I wanted much more for me and my family and often thought; ‘Well, maybe it just not meant to be.‘

Then one day a good friend of mine told me: “Let’s face it. You are responsible for where you are today!” Read the rest of this entry »

Road Map to Happiness

November 10, 2010

By: Heena Pattni

Can you actually plan for happiness?  And if you can, then how do you do it?

Now, let’s be clear, before we get too carried away.  We’re not saying that you must deny yourself the feeling of happiness until you reach this goal. Not at all.  As we stated before, feeling happy is something that is completely in your control.

This solution is for those of us out there who might struggle with finding and holding on to the feeling of happiness.  Just like a muscle that you haven’t worked out, or maybe didn’t even realise existed, Happiness is something that might genuinely be unfamiliar to you.  So you need to learn how to find it, and you need to learn how to hold on to it.

Here’s one possible solution. Read the rest of this entry »

NLP Master Board Break & How to Solve Difficult Problems

November 8, 2010

By: Lenka Majstrikova

On Saturday we have finished the first week of NLP Master Practitioner Certified Training  in style! All of our delegates have successfully completed their first 1 inch board beak.

The room was full of laughter, tears and hugs afterwards – after all, this was about much more than just learning how to break boards!

Firstly, through 1 inch board break our delegates learned how to do the process of modelling – eliciting conscious and unconscious strategies, physiology and internal filters from someone who is excellent at what they do. The whole range of NLP techniques was developed by modelling, and this is surely useful skill our delegates can take and use in life.

And of course, this act was a great metaphor for us. On day one, most of the delegates were looking at their wooden boards in disbelief: “How the hell am I going to break this?”

One inch board breaking is all about state. When someone is in the resourceful state, there is no way they won’t break that board! Plus, we simply assumed that that board is ALREADY broken and learned strategy that simply works.

This is similar in life. We often look at our problems as hard, or impossible to resolve Read the rest of this entry »

Seven Quick Confidence Boosters

November 2, 2010

By: Sally Pettitt

I have 7 confidence boosters that are highly effective that I would like to share with you. I got the ‘boosters’ from a NLP practice group I attended last month held on the last Thursday of every month in Watford.

Sometimes even though we grow in confidence as we get older we do have times where we lack confidence. This might be when meeting with new people, going to a job interview, presenting to a group of people, meeting with people you haven’t seen in a while and even when making decisions. Your Self – Fulfilling Prophecies

September 18, 2010

By: Lenka Majstrikova

Have you ever expected something and it indeed happened? Then you told yourself: “Oh, I just knew it”.

If you think about it you will find that what ever you expect ALWAYS becomes true. The law of expectation is unbreakable – whatever you expect, with confidence, becomes your own self – fulfilling prophecy. When you confidently expect good things to happen, good things usually happen to you. If you expect something negative to happen, you are usually not disappointed. Read the rest of this entry »

What is anger and how to get rid of it

August 30, 2010

When you are angry, your body releases stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline. Your heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature and breathing increase. When your body has to cope with a large amount of stress hormones due to angry outbursts, it may respond by making you ill.

Some health conditions that are linked to uncontrolled or unresolved anger are:

•    headaches,
•    back ache,
•    high blood pressure,
•    insomnia,
•    skin conditions e.g. eczema, psoriasis
•    digestive disorders e.g. irritable bowel syndrome (IBS),
•    heart attack, or
•    stroke.
•    anxiety,
•    low self esteem,
•    depression,
•    eating disorders,
•    self injury (harming yourself), or
•    misuse of drugs and/or alcohol.
Unresolved anger can weaken your immune system so that you are more likely to pick up colds, flu’s and infections. You will be less able to recover from operations, accidents or major illnesses, if your immune system is weak. Anger also lowers your pain threshold so that you are more sensitive to pain. Whose opinion really matters to you?

It can happen in a number of ways and we’ve all at some point been guilty of being the ‘someone else’ or being ‘the affected’.

A Simple Sales Strategy: Define What Salling Is!

August 18, 2010

By: Tessa Stowe

How do you define selling? A lot of people think of selling as persuading/convincing people to buy things they may or may not want or need. To some, selling is all about closing a deal. Thinking of selling like this is not very empowering to you. Frankly, if you have this perspective on selling, it’s no wonder if you hate it. I would too!

So what perspective can you take about selling that will make it enjoyable, exciting and something you look forward to? Sounds like a bit of a tall order doesn’t it? Read the rest of this entry »

7 Essential Keys to Successful Goal Setting & Goal Getting (Part 1)

July 17, 2010

By: Lenka Majstrikova

Most people on the roads drive knowing where they are going. If they didn’t have a clear destination in their mind, they would end up somewhere and wondering how did they get there. It’s same in life. If you don’t have a clear goal in your mind, you don’t have destination and you end up somewhere random, with random results. Goal setting is an essential skill turning ‘living’ into purposeful life.

Having said that, goals have no tangible value unless achieved. So how to go about goal setting in a way that delivers what we want? Here are the seven major keys to successful goal setting and goal getting.

Living on the ‘What If?’ Side of Life

June 16, 2010

Guest Post by: Nidhi Rupa Joshi

Has there ever been a time in your life, when you have thought back to an opportunity and thought ‘What if?’Come on, be honest! I know I have, many many many many many (erm I think you get the picture) times! It’s soooo not a nice feeling. The thought of all those missed opportunities, and the sadness of the missing beautiful memories that could have been. It’s that old enemy ‘Woulda, Shoulda, Coulda!’ rearing its oogly head!

So what was it that stopped you in the first place? What is the reason you are now sitting here at the ‘What if?’ side of life? What could you have done differently or more importantly, what can you do differently now, to stop that ever happening again? Many of us spend half our lives sitting on the ‘What if?’ side of life and then feel more and more disillusioned with ‘our lot’ in life, which then leads to more missed opportunities and then the beliefs that ‘well, it’s probably because we’re just not good enough’. Do you really believe this to be true? What is the one thing that we should do when we get to this stage? Well quite simply, it is to sit up and address what it actually is that has stopped us from grabbing all those opportunities with both hands. What is the fundamental underlying factor or factors that keeps us stuck where we are? Read the rest of this entry »

Today’s tip for having a great day (and life)

June 14, 2010

Smile!

There are plenty of simple things in life that can be quickly incorporated into your every day life, resulting in greater levels of happiness and well-being. This may sound a bit silly, but smiling is one of the best ones!

When you smile, the whole chemistry of your body changes. The act of smiling releases endorphins that have a health – giving effect. It also alters your psychological state in a positive way.

Smiling need not be merely a reaction. It can be a deliberate act. This shouldn’t be a brief, unfelt smile that finishes in a blink of an eye. Researchers suggest that you should smile between 15 – 30 seconds for the best effect.

So give yourself a promise to smile at least 5 times a day, for no good reason. And for sure, smile broadly and immediately when you do have a reason! You will light up your heart, and light up your day.

To your success,

Lenka

What is Time Line Therapy™ and how is it useful

May 28, 2010

Imagine for a moment that you have inside of you a time machine that allows you to go back and revisit stuff in the past and it allows you to go into the future to create those things that you want.

That would be quite handy, don’t you think?

The thing is, you do have this time machine already inside of you, because that’s how you know the difference between today and tomorrow, yesterday, two weeks ago, one year ago or ten year ago. How you know the difference between these time periods depends on how you store time internally – and that’s called your time line. Read the rest of this entry »

The Natural Laws Of The Universe

May 24, 2010

Guest Post By: Ebrahim Fakir

We live in a Universe of natural undisputable laws such as gravity etc. Isaac Newton, the legendary physicist, derived natural laws for gravity that are so precise, that we can land a man on the moon with no difficulty at all. Yet one of the greatest laws we have trouble understanding, is that of Energy. What is Energy? Stop and think about that for a moment. Is it here but not there? Or, is it there but not here? Actually, Energy is all around us, everywhere and it influences and is influenced by all the Natural Laws of the Universe. So what are these Natural Laws? Let’s take a look at some of them to get a deeper understanding. Read the rest of this entry »

Q: How can I protect myself from unwanted suggestions when under hypnosis?

May 23, 2010

Recently someone asked me: “How can I protect myself from unwanted suggestions when under hypnosis?”

The answer to that is that you don’t need to take any conscious effort to protect yourself. Hypnosis is not some ‘gullible state when you are completely zonked out’  as commonly perceived. All hypnosis is self hypnosis and it is simply relaxed state of mind when it’s easy to communicate with your unconscious mind. Your unconscious mind has got same values and beliefs as your conscious mind and they always protect you. You would not oblige to any suggestions that are not in alignment with your values, nor would you do something that is uncomfortable or would harm you in any way. Hypnosis is very safe and enjoyable.

How to Boost Your Self Confidence With Afformations

May 18, 2010

By: Heena Pattni

Some years ago, when I was first looking to improve my own self-confidence at work, a careers coach I approached on the subject advised, as part of an overall program of work, to write down three affirmations relating to my self-confidence. I was to repeat these out loud, several times over, as least twice a day. I was impressed – a prescription for improved self-confidence, what a great idea. And it sounded relatively easy.

What happened when I repeated my phrases? Well, there was part of me saying ‘You are a strong, confident woman, etc ‘, but as I repeated the sentences, there was another part of me saying ‘Actually, I think you’ll find you’re not strong or confident – stop saying you are’. Affirmations did not work for me at all. What they actually did was highlight – to me – that I was the very opposite. Why was this? Read the rest of this entry »

NLP is a way of helping a person change their behavior through a series of guiding principles, techniques, and attitudes. When sky is not a limit…Impact of Beliefs on Personal and Business Success

The Impact of Beliefs on Personal and Business Success

By: Lenka Majstrikova

“To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.” – Anatole France

When we were children, we used to dream about being astronauts. We wanted to be a president. A world famous actress. A doctor saving hundreds of lives. A millionaire. A happy husband or wife.

As children we believed that everything was possible.

Then we grew up. Some of those children grew into successful adults achieving all, or at least some of their childhood dreams. The rest of them moved on admitting that those were just dreams too big to make them reality.

What has happened to the child believing that not even sky was a limit?

One of the major differences between those people who succeed at what ever they want and those that do not is their belief system – a collection of beliefs about themselves, their capabilities, people, money and world. Read the rest of this entry »
